Dressage & Show Jumping

Dressage is a French term meaning “training,” often described as horse ballet. Its purpose is to develop a horse’s natural athletic ability and willingness to perform. Dressage provides the foundation for all riding disciplines within Pony Club. Within Pony Club, it is offered both as a stand-alone discipline and as part of combined events like Rally. Competitions are typically held at the Regional level, with opportunities to qualify for National Championships.

Show Jumping focuses on precision, control, and partnership as horse and rider navigate a course of fences within a set time. It builds on the fundamentals of dressage while testing accuracy, rhythm, and the ability to adapt quickly. Like dressage, show jumping is offered both as an individual discipline and within multi-phase competitions such as Rally and Tetrathlon. Competitions are also held at the Regional level with pathways to National Championships.

Our Dressage and Show Jumping Championships are typically held in the fall each year. For more details, please visit the Canadian Pony Club Dressage and Show Jumping pages.
